Packers stop in Merrill as part of tailgate tour

Current and former Green Bay Packers visited Merrill today as a part of the Packers Tailgate Tour, a five-stop bus tour that brought the crew to cities in Wisconsin and Upper Michigan.

The team's visit to Merrill on Saturday was the final leg of their journey across Wisconsin and the UP. After a surprise visit at a local Easter egg hunt in the morning, the team stopped at a few local places before heading to the main event at Merrill's MARC.

There, after a short Q&A session, the players and President and CEO Mark Murphy had a chance to sign autographs and interact with fans.

It's awesome to go into communities and see the people that support us on a daily basis,” Packers kicker Mason Crosby said. “That's what this is about for me, is just to say thank you for the support.”

It's also a unique chance for fans to get up close with some of their favorite athletes.

You get to see some Packer players and interact,” Packers fan Steve Tate said. “It's a good way to break up the offseason. It's awesome.”

But there's much more to this multi-stop tour. It's also an important fundraising opportunity for Merrill and the other communities involved.

We've been very fortunate,” Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy said. “Over the last eight years we've raised over 1.1 million dollars. So we'll hopefully add quite a bit to that total this year.”

The funds raised from Saturday's Green and Gold visit will go toward Merrill's Riverfront Trail and Riverfront Foundation.
