Packers want a Favre reunion: "Hopefully sooner rather than later"

Posted:
MERRILL (WAOW) - Mark Murphy said earlier this week that the Packers wanted to bring Brett Favre back for a reunion last season, but they couldn't because the high school team that the longtime Green Bay quarterback was coaching just kept winning.

But Murphy did confirm Saturday at the Packers Tailgate Tour stop in Merrill that getting Favre back for a game is a priority for the organization.

"Hopefully sooner rather than later," said the Packers president and CEO. "And our goal is...he'll be a first ballot Hall of Famer in 2016, and we'd like to retire his number prior to that."

Packers kicker Mason Crosby, who played with the legendary QB for one season, says he hopes a Favre reunion is on the horizon.

"Everything he did with the Packers and the kind of quarterback he was and what he meant to the organization," raved Crosby."It would be nice to get him back and honor him and retire his number."

One Packer who knows a thing or two about playing elsewhere after leaving Green Bay, is pro football Hall of Famer James Lofton.

"When you ask Brett Favre what he is... he's a Packer," said Lofton. "Yeah he might have played for the Jets and with the Vikings, but he's a Packer. So he'll be just as excited by it and he'll be overwhelmed by the fan support that he sees when he does come back."

Based on what Murphy and the organization have said, a Packers/Favre reunion is not a matter of if, but rather when. One thing is certain; when it does happen, it will surely be a spectacle, which is something Crosby says he's excited for.

"It's always a fun experience and I hope I'm around to be a part of it and see that history."
