Wausau's Thomas Street project moves forward

WAUSAU (WAOW) - Wausau's Thomas Street project is out of the brainstorming phase.

The city council voted to adopt the master plan developed by a Milwaukee consulting firm.

Before voting, council members emphasized the recommendation is not set in stone.

Instead, they say, it's a guideline for ironing out details.

"We needed a framework to move forward," said Councilman Keene Winters. "We didn't want to go back to brainstorming and I think the consultants put together a well-reasoned report and moving forward, looking at the options, costing them out and working with them in committees is the right thing to do."

Some Thomas Street residents spoke at the meeting.

They said Thomas Street can't support more than a two lane road. They also expressed concern that money to pay for the project would come out of the school district.
