Harsh weather delays campgrounds opening in central Wisconsin

TAYLOR COUNTY (WAOW) - The harsh weather is delaying some campground and trail openings in central Wisconsin.

Officials at the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest Service say conditions for the trails will be looked at regularly to see when they can open.

But for some, it's nice enough for them to open. Workers at the restaurant at Mondeaux Dam Lodge in the forest say business won't be affected by the delay of trails.

"Here we don't have any,” said Steve Kalmon, the camp's groundskeeper. “So I don't think we're going to be affected out here."

But they're still feeling the winter blues.

"Fallen trees, you know the forest service will have to get here and clean those up," said Kalmon.

Even though people are starting to come in, workers and customers say there's only one thing on their minds.

"Warm weather, you know get the boats out get people out fishing and swimming," said Kalmon.

Getting more people outside, instead of waiting for this weather to end.

The forest service hopes to have all trails throughout the forest open by May 22.
