UWSP sweeps Platteville behind 26 runs and Feyereisen's one-hitter

STEVENS POINT, Wis. - JP Feyereisen (River Falls, WI/River Falls) threw a one-hitter in game one and the ninth-rNked UW-Stevens Point baseball team scored 26 runs on 29 hits as the Pointers swept UW-Platteville by scores of 12-0 and 14-8 in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at University Field on Military Appreciation Day.
Feyereisen allowed just three baserunners and struck out five in the one-hit shutout to earn his fourth win of the season for UW-Stevens Point (22-7, 10-6 WIAC). The lone hit for UW-Platteville (6-25, 3-15 WIAC) was Ryan Duva's single to lead off the top of the fourth.

The Pointers scored at least one run in every inning, as five hitters had at least one run and at least one RBI. Five UWSP batters tallied multi-hit games, led by Kyle McHugh (Polonia, WI/Rosholt), who was 3-for-4 with a run and three RBI. Taylor Carlson (Madison, WI/LaFollette) finished 2-for-4 with three runs and a pair of RBI.

McHugh got the scoring started with an RBI double in the first, scoring Riley Spetz (Sturgeon Bay, WI/Sevastopol). Brandon Kranz (Waukesha, WI/West), Carlson and Spetz had run-scoring hits to make it 5-0 heading to the fifth.

In the fifth, Bobby Gregorich (Plover, WI/SPASH) hit his first home run of the season, a three-run shot to right to extend the lead to 8-0. McHugh highlighted a four-run sixth with a two-run double.

UW-Stevens Point led 6-0 after two innings but UW-Platteville came back with a five-run third to get within one. However, the Pointers responded with a five-run inning of their own in the fourth and went on to complete the sweep.

Kranz recorded an RBI single in each of the first two innings as part of a 3-for-4, two run, three RBI game. Carlson knocked in two in the first and Jimmy Coady(La Crosse, WI/Aquinas) tripled in two in the second to help UWSP establish the 6-0 lead.

The Pioneers got back in the game in the third, scoring five runs on five hits. UWSP starter Brad Stroik (Stevens Point, WI/SPASH) gave up five runs, three earned, in 2.1 innings before giving way to Max Frederick (New London, WI/New London) who earned the win by striking out seven over 3.2 innings.Nick Prebelski (Green Bay, WI/Notre Dame) and Ryan Williams(Stevens Point, WI/SPASH) combined to pitch the final three innings.

UW-Stevens Point turned a 6-5 lead to an 11-5 lead with the five-run fourth. The Pointers scored on a double by Carlson, a two-run single by Gregorich and a single up the middle by Coady in the frame.

The Pointers added single runs in the seventh and eighth. With the bases loaded in the top of the ninth, Coady made a running catch against the fence in right and doubled the runner off first to help limit the Pioneers to one run.

Coady, Kranz and Carlson each drove in three in game two, as the Pointers' two through six hitters combined to go 12-for-24 with seven runs and 13 RBI in the game. Spetz scored four of the 14 UWSP runs.

The Military Appreciation Day doubleheader was sponsored by the National Guard and raised over $2,300 for the VFW Relief Fund.
