WISCONSIN RAPIDS (WAOW) - A 34-year-old Spencer woman has been sentenced to 30 days in jail and four years probation for stealing a credit card belonging to an 87-year-old woman at a Marshfield nursing home where she worked, according to online court records.
Crystal Schillinger pleaded guilty Monday to two felonies - theft and misappropriating identification information to obtain money, court records said.
The judge ordered Schillinger to pay about $3,000 in restitution and to have no job that involves vulnerable adults during the probation, court records said. The judge allowed Schillinger's jail time to be served with work privileges.
According to the criminal complaint, Schillinger worked at Touch of Home Nursing Home when she took a credit card belonging to a resident with dementia last July and used the card until late September.
Schillinger told investigators she used the card on "multiple occasions," including to pay a $1,554 utility bill and twice to pay some veterinary bills, the complaint said.
The theft came to light when the elderly woman's power of attorney went to Marshfield police to report numerous purchases from the credit card that were not for the woman, the complaint said.
