Trial ordered for businessman in sex case

STEVENS POINT (WAOW) - A judge on Thursday ordered a 32-year-old Stevens Point businessman to stand trial on charges accusing him of drugging an 18-year-old woman and raping her at his home.

Stevens Tibbetts was charged with two counts of second-degree sexual assault of a 18-year-old woman he met March 5 at a cafe he owns in Stevens Point.

A judge ruled prosecutors presented enough evidence during Thursday's preliminary hearing to warrant a trial on the charges, according to online Portage County court records. No date was immediately set for Tibbetts to enter pleas to the charges.

Investigators say Tibbetts put drugs in the woman's drink, she passed out and she woke up while Tibbetts was having sex with her.

In another development, new charges have been filed against Tibbetts in three different cases. They involve two counts of second-degree sexual assault and one count of fourth-degree sexual assault involving three victims, court records said.

Tibbetts is free on a $10,000 signature bond.
