Driver killed when pickup truck crashes into tree

ROME (WAOW) – A 74-year-old man died early Thursday when the pickup truck he was driving crashed into a large tree, the Rome Police Department said.

David Friedbauer of the Town of Rome was pronounced dead at the scene, Chief Jason Lauby said in a statement.

The crash happened in the 200 block of County Highway Z, Lauby said. Police were called to the scene about 12:45 a.m.

Friedbauer was not using a safety belt, the chief said.

Rome is in northern Adams County, just southeast of Nekoosa.
