Stevens Point powwow celebrates Native American culture

STEVENS POINT (WAOW) -- Native American culture was celebrated Saturday with traditional tribal music, dancing and clothing.

The UW-Stevens Point Native American Center held their 41st annual powwow.

Organizers say more than 500 people showed up to the social gathering.

They say they do this every year because it's important for their people to keep tradition alive.

"It's a part of our culture and as native people, it's very important that we continue to maintain our identity, who we are," said Andrew Gokee, the Center's director.

The powwow was open to everyone in the community.
