Students in Wausau celebrate Cinco de Mayo

Students at a Wausau school celebrated the Mexican holiday of Cinco de Mayo on Monday.

The Spanish teacher at Newman Catholic High School says about 25 seniors began designing pinatas.

She says the students start by gluing newspaper to balloons and will later add tissue paper decorations.

"The kids love doing the pinatas, they can be very creative," said Beth Thoreson, a Newman Catholic High School Spanish teacher. "They can work in groups of two or three and they can make whatever they want and it's fun way for them to do cultural things too. "

The Spanish teacher says students will complete their pinatas in about two weeks.

She says once they are finished, she will hang them in her classroom.
