Home searched for drugs near Wausau elementary school

The female target of a Wausau drug bust, along with three other adults, are now in custody according to a Wausau Police lieutenant.

Lt. Matthew Barnes of the Wausau Police Dept says the woman is suspected of being a heroin drug dealer.

The lieutenant says police searched a home on the 1300 block of North 5th Avenue near Franklin Elementary School on Thursday morning.

He says officers found a small amount of marijuana and prescription narcotics.

Barnes says the search is a part of an ongoing investigation of heroin trafficking.

"Heroin is terrible on our community and it's causing deaths, so we feel like we're in a race to deal with all the individuals bringing this into our community and selling it,"

said Barnes.

The lieutenant says officers worked with school leaders beforehand and alerted them that a SWAT would be nearby as a precaution.
