Merrill food pantry teaches crock pot cooking

MERRILL (WAOW) -- A food pantry in Merrill served up a cooking lesson.

Dozens of people showed up to learn the best ways to use a crock pot, or slow cooker. The class focused on chicken dishes and other things that can be found right in the Merrill food pantry.

Organizers say the benefits of cooking fresh food at home can be long-term.

"This makes the food healthier," said Jane Bentz of the Good Samaritan Health Center. "They can separate it up and freeze it and they can stretch their meat products and groceries longer throughout the month."

Everybody who attended got a free crock pot to take home.

There will be another class on electric fry pans later this month.
