Central Wisconsin celebrates Mother's Day

Posted:
WAUSAU (WAOW) -- It's their job 365 days a year, but on this Mother's Day we say, "Thank you."

Mothers across central Wisconsin were celebrated for all they do. To show appreciation on Mother's Day, one idea is especially popular.

"Flowers are going to express their love for Mom and they want it to be very nice and to let them know that they're thinking of them and that Mom is very special to them," said Charmaine Prewitt, owner of the flower store Blossoms and Bows.

Florists say it takes a lot of work to put a smile on all those moms' faces.

"It is very hectic," Prewitt said. "We have a wonderful staff that stayed late all nights to get ready for deliveries."

She says her store made around 500 deliveries over the last few days.

"We often say it's Mother's Week versus Mother's Day because then we start delivering from Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday," said Prewitt. "It seems to constantly build."

It's not just florists that have to prepare. Getting a restaurant reservation can be tricky.

"It is one of our busiest days," said Jamie Ziolkowski, a server at 2510 Restaurant in Wausau. "We do about 800 to 900 people on average, sometimes more. It's a beautiful day, so I think it will be bringing more people out."

She says she sees the effect Mother's Day has on the customers.

"Everyone's in a very uplifted spirit and good mood for the most part," Ziolkowski said. "It seems they're very patient. They'll wait because it is so busy and they understand that we're trying."

But even on the day devoted to them, some mothers still can't help but put their children first.

"I'm hoping to go home and just relax a little bit and then the day continues and we head to soccer practice later," said Kathi Krueger of Wausau.

The owner of Blossoms and Bows says she stays open Sunday too because even if it's last minute, she wants to help people please their moms.
