Wausau's new fire chief sworn in

WAUSAU (WAOW) - Tracey Kujawa, Wausau's new fire chief, was sworn in Monday.

"Wausau's department has always had a great reputation. I look forward to being part of the team," Kujawa said during a ceremony at UW-Marathon County.

Kujcawa was the fire chief in Stevens Point, a department she called home for nearly 22 years. She's been running the department since 2011.

The Stevens Point Fire Department has named Assistant Fire Chief Bob Finn as the intern chief. He took over last week. The Police and Fire Commission is now planning how it will search for its next chief.

The Wauau Fire Department has 59 members, according to the city's website.

According to the Stevens Point 2014 budget, Kujawa was earning a $85,592 salary when she resigned. Newsliners is waiting to hear back from Wausau's human resources office on what Kujawa will be making as chief. The former Wausau fire chief earned about $105,000 a year.

Kujawa replaces Gary Buchberger who retired.

Tracey Kujawa will officially take over the Wausau Fire Department at 10:30 a.m. at UWMC's Center for Civic Engagement.


Former Fire Chief Gary Buchberger retired earlier this year after leading the department for nearly 16 years. In the meantime, Wausau Police Chief Jeff Hardel led the fire department.

Kujawa was the fire chief in Stevens Point, a department she called home for nearly 22 years. She's been running the department since 2011.
