Tom Tourtillott named head football coach at Wausau East

WAUSAU (WAOW) - Tom Tourtillott has been named head coach of the Wausau East High School football team. Lumberjacks Athletic Director Greg Harvey announced the hiring Tuesday morning.

Tourtillott replaces Scott Mallien, who resigned after one season at the helm of the program.

Tourtillott brings 23 years of football coaching experience to Wausau East. He was the head coach of the Merrill football team for seven seasons, turning the Bluejays program into a state championship contender.

Greg Harvey released this statement on Tourtillott's hiring:

"We could not be more excited with the addition of Tom to our teaching and coaching staff. He is coming into our program with a plan of attack that includes the teaching of solid core values within an education-based athletic program. On top of that, he is a master football technician and highly skilled communicator. Tom has a proven track record of success as a teacher and as a football coach. Our student-athletes and our entire Lumberjack football family are very eager to get going under Tom’s leadership."
