Two teens arrested after confronting children

WAUSAU (WAOW) - Wausau police say officers investigated two reports within minutes of each other Tuesday involving an attempted abduction of a young girl and the harassment of three children riding bicycles.

Two boys, ages 15 and 16, were arrested on suspicion of juvenile charges of child enticement and disorderly conduct, and turned over to their parents, Lt. Dwayne Dachel said Wednesday.

The incidents occurred about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 700 block of North Fifth Avenue and the 1000 block of North Eighth Avenue, he said. No one was hurt.

"We are hoping that they are being honest when they say that  they were just screwing around," Dachel said. "This type of stuff doesn't typically happen in Wausau."

In the first incident, the teens, both local high school students, said they asked a four-year-old girl if she wanted candy and asked her to get in their vehicle, Dachel said.

The girl's mother told Newsline 9 when the boys saw her, they drove away.

In the second incident, three children riding bicycles told investigators that a vehicle followed them and the people inside shouted at them and threatened to "get them," Dachel said.

The children went home and reported the incident to a parent who called police, Dachel said.
