WAUSAU (WAOW)-- A 1971 Wausau West High School graduate says a long-ago football game - and her role as a cheerleader - inspired her to reach out and help others.

"I was leaning on the fence watching the football team run onto the field in their shiny helmets. The air smelled of autumn and it was so good. I remembered thinking I always want to remember how I feel right now. Cheerleading was my passion, " said Terri Marie.

Marie later drew on that experience when she applied for a position with a speakers bureau.

"I needed an inspiring message about what I had learned that would be of value to others and I now encourage people to change their lives with what I learned as a cheerleader," Marie said.

She wrote "Your Inner Cheerleader," a book that includes 88 strategies for overcoming challenges and reaching your goals.

This week the Wausau School District recognized Marie for her book and the 30 documentary films she's produced by naming her to the Alumni Hall of Fame.
