UPDATE: Marathon Co. barn destroyed by fire

MARATHON COUNTY (WAOW) -- A barn in Marathon County has been destroyed by a fire and some chickens were killed.

A lieutenant with the Marathon County Sheriff's Department says the fire happened just before 8 a.m. Friday morning on the 1600 block of West Highway C, in south eastern Marathon County.

Fire officials say the barn collapsed and the fire spread to another small building near the bar. They say the fire also spread to the grass around the bar.

Multiple departments responded, including the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

Fire crews say they don't know the exact number of chickens killed. They say no other livestock were killed.

Investigators say the owner of the barn told crews he had a heat lamp in the barn, which may have caused the fire.

No people were hurt.
