Saga surrounding pit bull taken from humane society continues

WAUSAU ( WAOW) - The saga continues surrounding a pit bull taken from the Marathon County Humane Society.

Humane society leaders say right now it's unclear who owns the dog named Rosie.

Police say the Wausau woman who admitted to stealing the dog Thursday returned to the shelter Friday demanding the dog.

Valerie McCarthy told Newsline 9 Thursday that the dog is hers. Shelter leaders say she walked into the humane society Friday with two men and threw money at shelter workers. Shelter leaders say they felt intimidated so they called police.

Humane society officials say they handed the woman a dog adoption application but they say she didn't fill it out correctly.

Police say McCarthy left without the dog.

"Nobody's been arrested, they were asked to leave, they were asked not to come back today and hopefully they'll cooperate and let the paperwork procedure run its course and go that route," said Wausau Police Officer Roy Umlauf.

Humane society leaders say a man surrendered Rosie three weeks ago. We reached out to McCarthy on Friday, but we have not heard back.
