Mock plane crash tests emergency crews in Marathon County

MOSINEE (WAOW) -- There was a mock plane crash Saturday morning at Central Wisconsin Airport.

It was part of training for central Wisconsin emergency crews.

Coordinators say this mock plane crash tests how first responders deal with disasters. Several fire departments and EMS organizations helped with the exercise.

Officials say this all helps build important relationships between crews.

"You get to know different people from different departments," said Steve Hagman, Marathon County's emergency management director. "Once you create those relationships and something happens, you understand that. You understand what your role is so it flows a little better."

Marathon County officials say once every three years, they bring in a mock plane from Minneapolis to run this drill.
