Packers sign 3rd round pick and three tryout players

GREEN BAY (WAOW) - After the weekend rookie orientation/minicamp, the Packers have announced the signings of one of their draft picks, as well as three tryout players.

Third-round draft pick Khyri Thornton signed a four-year contract that's expected to be worth more than $2.8 million with a signing bonus of $563,252. The defensive end out of Southern Miss is the sixth draftee to be signed, leaving first-round pick Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, second-round pick Davante Adams, and third-round pick Richard Rodgers unsigned.

Green Bay has also signed three players that were invited to tryout for the team, with the biggest of those names being former Oregon tight end Colt Lyerla. The 21-year-old had 11 touchdowns before his career at Oregon ended following a cocaine possession charge. Some draft analysts said that Lyerla was a first-round talent, as he was one of the top performers among tight ends at the combine, but his off-the-field concerns kept his name from being called at the draft. The Packers were impressed with his performance at rookie minicamp and despite the red flags in Lyerla's past, Green Bay will give him the chance to become a weapon in the offense.

The Packers also signed safety Charles Clay (Hawaii) and defensive end Luther Robinson (Miami), both who were tryout players invited to rookie minicamp.
