-Early detection and effective treatment have resulted in a decline in breast cancer mortality in the U.S. – 33 percent since 1990

-Financial barriers and accessibility remain one of the largest reasons women do not seek mammograms

-Since Komen Central Wisconsin’s inception seven years ago, we have invested over $1 Million in local community programs and over $250,000 into the National Research Grants Program

-Up to 75 percent of net funds raised locally fund vital local breast health services.

-The remaining 25 percent funds national research to find the cure

-Last year, Komen Central Wisconsin grant dollars funded:

        -36 survivor’s personal workshop training for wellness beyond breast cancer

        -280 screenings and/or diagnostic services

        -Resulting in the detection of 12 breast cancers!

        -1,500 women reached for breast cancer awareness and prevention education

-In 2013, Komen Central Wisconsin received over $156,000 in grant requests.

-1 in 8 women will get breast cancer in her lifetime

-If detected early, while confined to the breast, the 5-year survival rate is 98%

-Nearly 40,000 people die from breast cancer each year in the U.S. (that is enough to fill Chicago’s Wrigley Field)
