DA: Kronenwetter cop paid for sex at his office

WAUSAU (WAOW) – A veteran Kronenwetter policeman had sex with a 19-year-old prostitute on a counter at the Kronenwetter Police Department and paid her $800, a criminal complaint says.

Jason Rasmussen, 41, was charged with three misdemeanor counts of having sex with a prostitute and one misdemeanor count of encouraging a probation or parole violation, according to the complaint filed Friday in Marathon County Circuit Court.

No date has been set for Rasmussen to make his initial court appearance.

The Kronenwetter administrator said Tuesday that Rasmussen has remained on paid administrative since his arrest in April. Rasmussen has worked for the department since July 2006.

Online Marathon County court records say the criminal complaint for Rasmussen was served on the Cveykus Law Firm in Wausau. A message left with the office was not immediately returned Tuesday.

Rasmussen was arrested after a woman approached a Wausau police officer in April on an unrelated call and asked to talk in private, informing the officer that she advertised on backpage.com in the Green Bay area and was working as a prostitute, police said.

The woman told investigators that Rasmussen was one of her clients for the past six months, she first met him in Green Bay and that three sexual encounters with Rasmussen for money took place in Kronenwetter and in Wausau after she moved to Wausau in December, the complaint said.

She told investigators she was paid $400, $500 and $800 for the sex, the complaint said.

The encounter at the Kronenwetter Police Department took place between Jan. 1 and Jan. 24, the woman told investigators.

She said another took place in her younger cousin's bedroom in her aunt's Wausau home, the complaint said.

The maximum punishment for each count of having sex with a prostitute is nine months in jail and a $10,000 fine.

The woman was placed on probation for two misdemeanor convictions in Waupaca County in January, the complaint said.
