Wausau man accused of possessing child porn

STEVENS POINT (WAOW) – A 42-year-old Wausau man accused of possessing child pornography in Portage County downloaded sexually explicit pictures of girls as young as six on a computer a man asked him to fix, according to a criminal complaint.

Scott Szerlong has been charged with 35 felony counts of possession of child pornography as a repeat offender.

Each count carries a maximum punishment of 25 years in prison plus up to another six years as a repeater.

The criminal complaint filed last week said pornographic images of young girls were found on Szerlong's cell phone and the laptop computer during a search of the devices last June.

A man told police he gave the computer for Szerlong to fix in May 2013 and he never returned it, the complaint said.

The laptop owner denied downloading child pornography on it, the complaint said.

Police seized the computer during a search last June of a Stevens Point motel room registered to Szerlong, the complaint said.

In an unrelated case, Szerlong was also charged last week with two counts of forgery.

During an initial court appearance Monday, a judge ordered Szerlong jailed on $15,000 cash bond. His preliminary hearing was set for July 21.
