Eight veterans take "dream flight" in biplane

STEVENS POINT (WAOW) - Eight central Wisconsin veterans soared into the skies near Stevens Point on Tuesday, riding in an open cockpit 1930's biplane.

"You feel free when you're up in the air," veteran Arlyn Johnson said.

Ageless Aviation Dreams hosts what it calls "dream flights" all across the country as a way to honor veterans and elderly people.

The veterans took off from the Stevens Point Municipal Airport on 20 minute rides in a plane that was used to train military aviators in the late 1930's.

Johnson, an Air Force veteran who flew 35 missions in German during World War II, enjoyed the ride.

"We had a nice flight, It feels like you're free up in the air and the landing was perfect," he said.

Darryl Fisher, who founded Ageless Aviation Dreams, said the flights always seem to energize the old soldiers. "It just makes a difference to them."

The veterans who took the flights included two women. Both were 92.
