Teen pleads not guilty in store break-in

WAUSAU (WAOW) – A Wausau teenager who told investigators he tried to burglarize a grocery store to get money for his mother to pay rent pleaded not guilty to two felonies Wednesday.

Kirklan Goodwin, 18, was charged with burglary and eluding an officer in a vehicle following the attempted break-in and high speed chase last Friday.

No trial date was immediately set, according to online Marathon County court records.

Goodwin was arrested after trying to break into Kohlman and Lee's IGA on South Third Avenue and fleeing in a car before crashing into a fence at a business on Wausau's west side, the complaint said.

Goodwin's mother helped police find him after he ran from the scene, the complaint said.

Nothing was taken in the early-morning burglary.

The police chase from the grocery store reached speeds up to 80 mph as Goodwin drove through residential neighborhoods, investigators said.
