VFW members, students share a flag tradition

WAUSAU (WAOW)--Members of VFW Post 388 in Wausau and students from D.C. Everest Junior High put flags up in Pine Grove Cemetery for Memorial Day, continuing a long tradition.

"This is a great way for us to remember those who died serving their country," said Savannah Stenberg, one of the students who was busy at the cemetery Wednesday morning.

The VFW members also placed flags on the graves of John and James Burns.

The brothers are the namesakes of the Wausau post.

"They were both killed in World War 1 in 1918. In 1920, the post was named after them," said post member Dennis Kruzan.

Kruzan says he is thrilled that students helped with the flags and he hopes that one day they will carry on the tradition.
