Langlade Co. sheriff: 'It is a substantial drug bust'

ANTIGO (WAOW) – A month-long drug investigation in Langlade County ends with investigators recommending charges against 12 people, according to the Langlade County Sheriff.

Sheriff Bill Greening says the probe culminated on Tuesday night when the Langlade County Sheriff's Department and Antigo Police Department searched a home on South Hudson Street in Antigo.

The Langlade County Sheriff Department is calling its latest drug bust Operation Cleansweep.

Greening says a drug delivery to a police informant led officers to the home, which is believed to be the center of drug trafficking.

He says officers seized about 12 ounces of marijuana, two and a half grams of methamphetamines and about 275 prescription pills.

But, Greening says it's the meth that's most concerning.

"This seemed to be a greater amount and greater number of deliveries of methamphetamines than we've been accustomed to," said Greening.

He says officers also seized cash, an AR-15 rifle and a vehicle believed to be used to deliver drugs.

Greening says officers are looking to seize three other vehicles that may be involved with the case.

The sheriff says 12 people are charged or are facing charges.

"Everything from probation violation to delivery of narcotics, maintaining a drug house," said Greening. "A lot of serious felony charges."

Ten people have been charged so far, according to the Langlade County District Attorney. Two men and one woman made their first court appearance Thursday.

District Attorney Ralph Uttke says he hopes the drug bust leads to a safer community.

"Hoping it puts a real dent on the state of drugs in the county," said Uttke.

The public defender had no comment.

Neighbors in the area say they suspected strange activity at the house.

One neighbor tells Newsline 9 he saw as many as 25 cars per day coming and going from the house.

Greening says the investigation is ongoing and there may be more people connected to this case.

ANTIGO (WAOW) – A search of a home in Antigo culminated a month-long drug investigation that led to recommendations that 12 people be charged, Langlade County Sheriff Bill Greening said Thursday.

We worked with use of an informant,” he said. “I think it is a substantial drug bust because of both the type of drugs as well as the number of people.”

The probe targeted the manufacture and distribution of controlled substances, including marijuana, crystal methamphetamine and prescription drugs, the sheriff said.

Investigators seized 12 ounces of marijuana, 2.5 grams of methamphetamine, 275 prescription pills, an AR-15 rifle and a 2014 Subaru automobile during Tuesday's search, Greening said.

Forfeiture action is being sought for three other vehicles as a result of this investigation,” the sheriff said.

Ten people were charged Thursday, the district attorney said.

Among charges that police recommended were delivery of a controlled substance near a school, delivery of a controlled substance near a park, operating a drug house, possession and delivery of marijuana and possession and delivery of methamphetamine, Greening said.

Greening said three people were arrested Tuesday and warrants and summons were issued for the rest.
