Wausau students head outdoors for class

WAUSAU (WAOW) - Students took to the waters of Wausau to learn more about the environment Thursday.

8th graders at DC Everest Junior High School got a hands-on learning experience. The students visited Oak Island to learn about navigating rivers and how to use a canoe. Students say heading outdoors is a great way to learn.

"We learn a lot in school, but I think it its better for people to be more hands-on, just so its a better learning environment," said Amyah Theiss, an 8th grader at DC Everest Junior High School. "You're more free to do things."

Other students learned how to asses water quality and how a dam works.
