Marshfield Clinic announces more job cuts

MARSHFIELD (WAOW) – The Marshfield Clinic is making a number of layoffs, according to officials there.

Clinic President and CEO Dr. Brian Ewert tells Newsline 80-120 positions will be cut. He says that equals about 1-2 percent of the total clinic workforce.

Ewert says those jobs are management positions, and says patient care will not be impacted.

"There are limited resources. So as good stewards of these community resources, we need to improve our efficiencies while we continue to provide high quality health research and education," Ewert said.

In 2012, 100 workers were laid off. Earlier this year, Marshfield Clinic leaders also announced budget cuts, which meant a five percent pay cut for doctors and employees who earn more than $125,000.

Marshfield Clinic has about 7,700 workers, including 700 doctors, and operates about 50 medical centers located in central, northern and western Wisconsin.
