Stevens Point mayor says he won't run again

STEVENS POINT (WAOW) – The mayor of Stevens Point tells Newsline 9 he has decided not to run for a third term.

Mayor Andrew Halverson says he's accomplished all of the goals he set out to accomplish when he took the job. He was first elected back in 2007.

Halverson then won re-election against city council member Mike Wiza in 2011.

He says after talking to his family, he decided it was the right move to make.

"This was the right time, after getting a lot of wonderful things done in the city of Stevens Point to say, 'these are my intentions' and hope it will create a lot of conversation for potential candidates for the future,” said Halverson.

Halverson will remain in office until April 2015.

He says he won't rule out running for another type of office in the future.
