UPDATE: Merrill man, 81, dies following two-car crash

MARATHON COUNTY (WAOW) – Marathon County Sheriff's Department officials say it could be weeks before more information is released following a fatal two-car crash near Wausau.

Officials say Herman Roger Krueger, 81 of Merrill, was transported to the hospital following the crash on Saturday afternoon, near the intersection of County Highways N and Y in the town of Norrie.

They say he was taken to Aspirus Wausau Hospital, with what were thought to be non-life threatening injuries. But sheriff's officials say he later died. Authorities have not released a cause of death.

The Marathon County medical examiner tells Newsline 9 she believes Krueger died from blunt head force trauma, caused by the crash.

Marathon County Sheriff's Department officials say Krueger was driving westbound on County N, when a Florida driver headed northbound on County Y entered the intersection. They say the Florida driver was cited for failure to yield the right away at a stop sign at the intersection.

Officials say the Florida driver suffered minor injuries and was not transported. The name of that driver has not been released.

The Marathon County Sheriff's Department says the investigation is on-going and more information is expected to be released in a few weeks.

Officials did not immediately return a message for comment regarding why the investigation would take so long.
