Dad who let 11-year-old drive could be charged

WAUSAU (WAOW) – Police are recommending that a 35-year-old father be charged with recklessly endangering safety in allowing his 11-year-old daughter to drive a sport utility vehicle that crashed into a tree, according to a police report.

The incident happened Friday about 6 p.m. at the intersection of South Third Avenue and West Street.

Police say the girl was driving the vehicle after her father, who had been drinking, asked her to drive.

Besides recommending a criminal charge, a police report said the father received a citation for permitting an unauthorized minor to drive.

No other details were immediately available Monday.
