Memorial Day is a time of remembrance, and many people throughout central Wisconsin are honoring veterans for during the holiday.
More than a hundred people attended a ceremony at Restlawn Memorial Park in Wausau on Monday. A speaker read a list of central Wisconsin soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice. A firing squad also honored the fallen with a 21 gun salute.
"We have a very patriotic community and it's a wonderful opportunity to be out here to show how much it means to us to be able to honor those troops who have kept our freedom for us here in the United States," said Paul Missett, a honor guard member.
A Boy Scout troop also participated in the ceremony. Veterans in attendance say they hope this day helps younger generations understand their service.
