UPDATE: Man found dead near Lake Wausau

WAUSAU (WAOW) - The body of a 33-year-old man was found Tuesday morning on some rocks near the Lake Wausau shoreline, authorities said.

Wausau Police Lt. Bill Kolb said the death was not considered suspicious but it remained under investigation. The man's name was not released.

Capt. Gregory Hagenbucher said the man's live-in friend reported that he left their apartment on foot Monday evening and was "very intoxicated" and has had "substance abuse issues."

The woman told investigators she went looking for him Tuesday and found him about 10:20 a.m., Hagenbucher said.

The couple lived in the area of South 12th Avenue and Flieth Street, where the body was recovered, Hagenbucher said in a statement.

An autopsy on the victim is planned Wednesday in Madison, the captain said.

WAUSAU (WAOW) -- Wausau police say the body of a 33-year-old man has been found near the Wisconsin River.

An investigator with the Wausau Police Department tells Newsline 9 they're investigating the death near the area of Flieth Street and 11th Avenue in Wausau.

Lt. Bill Kolb says deputies spoke with the significant other of the man. She told police the man had substance abuse issues.

Kolb said the man's significant other found him around 10:20 a.m on the rocks, not in the water. But, police say the man may have been moved.

Kolb said the death is not considered suspicious but investigators say they cannot rule out foul play at this point.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Wednesday to determine how the man died.
