Truck rolls on Highway 29 as deputies chase it

WITTENBERG (WAOW) – A semi-truck reported as having a reckless driver rolled over on state Highway 29 Tuesday as police neared it, the Shawano County Sheriff's Department said.

The crash, which blocked the westbound lanes, happened just east of Wittenberg near Witt-Morr Townline Road, Chief Deputy John Gutho said in a statement.

The driver, a 26-year-old Manitowoc man, was taken to a Wausau hospital, Gutho said.

About 2 p.m., the sheriff's department received a call of a reckless driver headed westbound in a dump truck, Gutho said.

Just prior to deputies stopping the vehicle, it rolled over,” he said.

The state Department of Transportation reported the westbound lanes near the crash site would be blocked for about two hours.

Westbound traffic was detoured south on Witt-Morr Road, west on Willlow Road and north on U.S. Highway 45, the DOT said.
