WAUSAU (WAOW) – A 29-year-old man found dead along the shoreline of Lake Wausau died from a head and neck injuries and hypothermia, Wausau police said Thursday.
Ezequias Mendez-Perez's death “appeared to be accidental,” Capt. Gregory Hagenbucher said in a statement.
A female roommate found Mendez-Perez in some large rocks along the shoreline Tuesday morning.
Mendez-Perez was last seen walking near the Cabaret Bar on Sunday evening and was “very intoxicated,” Hagenbucher said.
His roommate told investigators that he commonly used a very steep walking trail near the lakeshore to walk to and from the bar, Hagenbucher said in a statement.
No other details were immediately released, including Mendez-Perez's blood-alcohol level at the time of his death. Police on Tuesday said the man who died was 33. Capt. Hagenbucher tells Newsline 9 they were able to find Mendez-Perez's birth certificate, which identified him as 29 years old.
