UPDATE: One person in custody after fight on Wausau's east side
WAUSAU (WAOW) – Wausau police say a 21-year-old male is in custody, and one man is in the hospital after a fight on Wausau's northeast side.
According to Lt. Michael Juedes of the Wausau Police department, witnesses say three men were involved in an altercation on N. 5th street. Police say one man shattered a window of a vehicle trying to get to someone inside.
"We ended up arresting this 21-year-old male because the victim identified him as the one who struck him several times. We were told by other witnesses that there may have been three males involved, but it's possible that they didn't partake in any of the assault so those were questioned and released," said Juedes.
Police surrounded the neighborhood after receiving a call saying that shots were fired. But, after investigating the area, police say guns were not involved.
Authorities say one person was taken to the hospital with injuries.
The incident occurred near Franklin Elementary School. According to Amy Arlen of the Wausau School District, students there were kept inside for recess as a precaution. Arlen says the students will be let outside for lunch at noon.
