Principal sleeps on roof for students

STEVENS POINT (WAOW) - One central Wisconsin principal made good of his promise to students.

That promise was to spend the night on the roof of the school. It all started with a reading competition.

The 4th grade class of St. Stephen's School in Stevens Point had to sit down and read books to earn points. Those points earned them one night of their principal sleeping on the roof. But that principal says he's bearing the heat for a good reason.

"Read! Encourage kids to read. If you have young children in your family, grandchildren, read to them," said principal Gregg Hansel. "For gifts, buy kids books. The more children read, the more variety of things children read, the better it is. We just want people to read, read, read."

This is the second competition those students have won. For the first competition, Hansel dyed his hair pink and his beard orange.
