Students in Wausau got a taste of history Friday that packed a punch.
Wausau West freshman got to watch a civil war cannon being fired. The cannon was brought in by volunteers of the Eighth Regiment of Wisconsin.
It's part of the school's activities for American Civil War month. Organizers say the students look forward to seeing the cannon all month.
"The students are always so surprised not just by the volume of how loud it is when a cannon is fired, but also the reverberation you can actually feel it in your chest,"said Christine Kadonsky, a history teacher at Wausau West.
Six classes caught a glimpse of the cannon being fired. The students also did other civil war activities throughout the day.
