Students craft benches for Merrill dog park

Posted:
MERRILL (WAOW) - Students in Merrill are making a dog park a little more "human friendly."

An art teacher at Prairie River Middle School says about 19 students worked to make benches for pooch owners to sit on while their furry friends play. The students designed dog portraits and made those portraits into stained-glass mosaics. Each of the 4 benches features 5 different dog portraits, representing 20 breeds.

"Each one of the students took on the responsibility of choosing a dog portrait that they wanted to do in mosaic, and they had to draw it up and figure out where each different color of the glass was going to go," said art teacher Christy Rasmussen.

The middle school student council held fund raisers to help pay for the benches, bringing in more than $600 to buy the supplies.
