Golfers tee off at Badger State Summer Games

WAUSAU (WAOW) - Golfers teed off Thursday, launching the start of the Badger State Summer Games in the Wausau area.

Five golfers entered the senior division at the Greenwood Hills Country Club.

Bob Prosch of Plover played golf in the  Badger State competition in 1985.

"It is such a great event. We had 200 golfers in Madison. It broke my heart when fewer athletes started to compete. I was so glad when Wausau got the games," said Prosch.

The  Wausau Central Wisconsin Convention and Visitors Bureau purchased the rights to the games when the original owner decided to sell it in 2011.

Organizers have added games and hope to expand some of the existing events.

Wausau began hosting the Badger State Summer Games in 2012. This year's games run for three weekends, beginning this weekend with golf, duathlon and basketball, and wrapping up June 29 with archery.
