Golfers compete in Badger State Games

MARATHON COUNTY (WAOW) -- The Badger State Summer Games got underway this weekend in Marathon County.

This is the 30th year the games have been played.

One of Saturday's events was golf for both the adult and junior divisions. The weather was nice enough Saturday afternoon for the golfers to get in their rounds.

Game officials say playing at Wausau's Greenwood Hills Country Club is a special experience for the athletes.

"They get to play a fabulous golf course at a very reasonable price," said Kerry Fitzgerald, the golf commissioner for the Badger State Games. "Especially for the juniors, it's probably one of the better courses they would play throughout the state as far as the competitions that are available to them."

The adult division will pick up their competition on the course again Sunday. Also Sunday, there is 3-on-3 basketball at DC Everest High School.
