Saturday Sports Report: Mosinee wins division 2 state title

Entering it's WIAA Division 2 state championship game against New London Saturday, Mosinee had only given up one run all postseason.

Things didn't change.

Rochelle Koshalek and the Indians shut out the Bulldogs en route to a 2-0 victory and the first softball state title in school history.

"Right now, I can't believe it." Koshalek, Mosinee's pitcher, said. "It feels like we won a little tournament, but I'm sure tomorrow it will settle in."

The championship caps off a 28-2 season for Mosinee. Both losses came on the same day, when Rhinelander swept a conference doubleheader.

Still, it didn't phase the team. It's defense carried it all the way to Madison.

"It was pretty surreal," Mosinee head coach Todd Felch said. "The thing that was most impressive to me about the whole process was that they looked like they belonged here."

And with only one senior set to graduate, its safe to say Mosinee has a good chance at belonging at state next year as well.
