Lightning strikes home in Lincoln County

A Lincoln County home was struck by lightning early Tuesday morning.

Merrill Fire Chief Dave Savone says it happened in the Town of Scott just after midnight.

He says the homeowners' adult son was inside the home and felt the strike.

The chief says the son called 911 when he noticed smoke in the attic and second floor.

"They had to get in there with pipe poles and axes and they had to pull down drywall and lathe and plaster and paneling off of the ceiling and every inch of the way and when they did that that exposed the fire and they could extinguish the fire," said Savone.

The chief says the home sustained about $40,000 worth of damage.
