SPASH falls to Sun Prairie in D-1 quarterfinal

For the third consecutive year, SPASH's season ended at the hands of Sun Prairie at the WIAA State Baseball Tournament in Grand Chute, as the Panthers fell 5-3 in the Division 1 quarterfinal Tuesday morning.

The Panthers, the number one ranked team in the state by the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Assocation, got off to a hot start, taking a 1-0 lead in the second inning. However, SPASH was plagued by errors. They committed just two on the day, but both came at crucial times.

"We made some uncharacteristiic defensive mistakes," SPASH Head Coach Kraig Terpstra said. "Mistakes that really led to all of their runs. It was unfortunate, but you've got to give them credit."

This ends a SPASH season that saw the Panthers go 26-3, including a perfect 12-0 in the Wisconsin Valley.

"Right now it's devastating," outfielder Jon Barnes, a senior, said. "But as a team, I know looking back on it, it will be something to remember. We played a great season, it's one to remember, but some days it doesn't go your way."

One area team, Pittsville, is still active in the tournament. The Panthers play Wednesday morning at 8 a.m.
