Wausau Police on the lookout for underage drinking parties

WAUSAU (WAOW)--Wausau police say they see more underage drinking parties during the summer months.

"It is nice out, school is out and people are outdoors and  have their windows open. So often it is noticed more often,"said Capt. Ben Bliven of the Wausau Police Department.

On Tuesday night officers were called to a home on on the city's east side on  a report about an underage party and numerous citations were issued by police.

"We gave underage drinking citations to those under the age of 21 and cited an 18-year old man who lived in the house for hosting the party and arrested several adults on outstanding warrants and probation violations, " said Bliven.

For the past three years Wausau has had a social host ordinance which allows police to issue citations to adults who serve alcohol to minors or provide a place for them to drink it.

"It is a hefty fine of between $1500 and $5000. It is meant to be a deterrent to underage drinking, said Bliven.
