Wausau area athletes compete in national Special Olympics games

WAUSAU (WAOW) – Several athletes and coaches from the Wausau area are competing in New Jersey this week at the 2014 Special Olympics USA Games.

A total of 62 athletes from Wisconsin are competing in several different sports, including powerlifting, volleyball, flag football and bowling.

Nathaniel Schmidt of Merrill, Amanda Stroinski of Wisconsin Rapids, Desiree Heck of Neillsville, Hannah Medo of Stevens Point, Jay Bremmer of Wisconsin Rapids, and Benjamin Burow of Stevens Point are all competing.

The sporting events are being held throughout venues in Mercer County, New Jersey.

The events run through Saturday.
