UPDATE: Wanted fugitive spotted in Jackson County, still on run

WOOD COUNTY (WAOW) --- The search for a convicted felon on the run has moved into Jackson County, Wood County Sheriff's officials said Tuesday.

Eric T. Hall, 38, is wanted for multiple car thefts across the state.

According to the sheriff's department, just before 10:00 p.m. Monday investigators received a tip that Hall was at a home of a relative in 6500 block of Anderton Ave. in the Village of Vesper.

When deputies arrived they spotted Hall, but say he took off. According to a press release from the sheriff's department, the deputies chased Hall, but he escaped.

"He exited the rear of the residence and got into an altercation with one of our deputies," explained Lt. Shawn Becker of the Wood County Sheriff's department. "The deputy tried the best she could to stop him but he was able to get away."

A short time later, a stolen vehicle was reported in the Village of Vesper. Investigators say it's believed that Hall took that vehicle. It is a Silver 2004 GMC Sierra Pickup Truck with WI license plate GD7687.

That vehicle has now been recovered in Jackson County, authorities said. They believe Hall is in another vehicle, possibly a Pontiac Montana.

"He's not just stealing the vehicles, he's taking license plates as well. So, if you notice your license plate is missing let us know right away. It could be the front or the back one," said Lt. Becker.

Becker says Hall could still be armed and dangerous.

If spotted, contact law enforcement immediately.

One other person was taken into custody at the Vesper residence for obstructing an officer.

CHIPPEWA FALLS (WAOW) - A man released from prison just days ago and wanted in the theft of three vehicles in western Wisconsin may have been spotted in Rhinelander on Wednesday, authorities said.

An Oneida County resident reported that she had seen a person and vehicle matching the description of Eric “Buck” Hall, 38, in the area of Eisenhower Parkway about 5:30 p.m., Rhinelander Police Capt. Ron Lueneburg said.

“The Rhinelander Police Department does not have any information indicating Hall remains in Rhinelander at this time,” Lueneburg said in a statement Thursday.

Hall is wanted in the theft of vehicles in River Falls and Chippewa County late last week, the Chippewa County Sheriff's Department said. One of the vehicles had a rifle and a shotgun with ammunition.

Investigators believe Hall could flee to Eagle River regarding a custody dispute with a woman involving a 2 1/2-year-old child, said Chippewa County Sheriff's Investigator Chris Kowalczyk.

Hall was last known to be operating a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado, tan in color, with Wisconsin license plate JE7961, authorities said.

Hall was released from prison June 10, according to an advisory issued by the Wisconsin Crime Alert Network.
