Top Dog election underway in Portage County

WAUSAU (WAOW)--The race is to find the top dog in Portage County.

The Humane Society of Portage County organized an event, the 2014 Stevens Point Canine Mayor.

20 pet owners paid a fee of  $25.00 to enter their animals in the contest.

"It is a great and fun way to raise money for the humane society," said humane society volunteer Dolores Glytas.

It costs one-dollar to cast a ballot for the winner.

All of the money raised goes to the care of animals at the Humane Society of Portage County in Plover.

The winner will be announced July 1.

Stevens Point Mayor Andrew Halverson says the winner can walk in the Fourth of July parade help lead the festivities for the event.
